Build a shape on the axes of the notes. Build a beautiful shape with curves and glides and sombre gentle plains and fantastic fractal pinnacles.
Weave a beautiful tapestry of notes.
With सा always the base tonic - the pillar around which a lot of the tapestry hangs. Emphasize it and keep returning to it. Have long सा notes to keep realigning with the Tanpura.
Introduce ध. As a flutter Or as a grace note. Kissing the सा. Keep giving brief looks, then more and more, till you finally introduce the ध in its entirity and glory.
Remain with the ध for a while. It is the संवादी. Play with the ध and the सा and find new patterns. Use repetitions. Use aandolans.
Like a shadow, then introduce the प. Lower (मंद्र) प. Build now, with these 3 notes.
And so on and so forth. Add all the notes, slowly - and make a garland with सा, प, ग, ध - as the heroes, the pillars. Now, with these guidelines, it is possbile to get immersed in the aalaap (आलाप)
And finally, you can reach the तार सप्तक (higher octave) and maybe play the same melody using the high and middle octaves. Compose - on the spot. Flow. Keep it moving. Don't make it boring and predictable. Keep it interesting and very, very beautiful.
